Since the summer of 2007 RES has offered a 7-week long course on renewable energy, technologies and economics, in cooperation with SIT - Study Abroad, the School for International Training, based in Vermont, United States. The SIT Summer School is only intended for undergraduate students from universities in the United States (which have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies).
US students benefit from first-hand exposure to renewable energy systems in Iceland, and from contact with those who build, maintain, and make decisions about such systems. The focus is on geothermal and hydroelectric systems, though hydrogen and FC systems and biofuels are also emphasized, as well as site visits to power plants and industries.
RES will also organize and arrange customized programs and courses in renewable energy, tailored to the requests of foreign universites and organizations. During the summer of 2009 RES offered for
the first time a 2-week long program of study in renewable energy and sustainable development, and a 2-week long couse on geothermal energy. Both courses gave the participants the opportunity to get
a broad knowledge in the field of renewable energy, discover the potentials for the future and experience how energy is being utilized in Iceland - all set in an unforgettable scenery in
the midnight sun.
