SIT - RES Summer Students

Fifteen US students from the SIT Study Abroad Program have been in Iceland since June 11th. The group, which represents several US universities and colleges, have been taking a course Renewable Energy, Technology, and Resource Economics as well as taking a course in Icelandic. The program, which has taken the students from Reykjavík, through the southern coast of Iceland, across the interior highlands of Iceland and to Akureyri is due to end on July 30th. The last portion of the program will be completed in the West Fjords.

RES The School for Renewable Energy has co-organized the SIT Summer program. Emily Ferry, of RES has been liaising and organizing the program with SIT's headquarters in Brattleboro, Vermont.

The program focus has been on helping the students develop a knowledge base of alternative energy technologies, and understanding of the role of these technologies in Iceland's social and political context. Furthermore, the program's West Fjord portion will enable the students to apply their knowledge through a host community.
