ISSK'08 in Karelia

RES's Director, Dr. Bjorn Gunnarsson, was one of several professors teaching in the International Summer School of Karelia 2008, ISSK'08, held May 15 - 19. This was the third time that Dr. Gunnarsson participated in ISSK, but the main theme of ISSK'08 was "Energy Security".



Lectures were given at the Petrozavodsk State University, Petrozavodsk, Russia. Altogether about 25 undergraduate and graduate students took part in the program, majority coming from Russia. Students' backgrounds were mainly in political science and international relations with emphasis on natural resources. Dr. Gunnarsson gave four hour-long lectures on the following topics: "Current and Future Outlook for Renewable Energy Technologies", "Renewable Energy Utilization: What can be learned from the Icelandic Experience?", "The Importance of Energy Education: RES – School for Renewable Energy Science in Iceland"; and "Arctic Energy Sources, Transportation & Climate Change".
