RES | the School for Renewable Energy Science is owned by Orkuvordur Ltd. which is a private limited liability company. The partners include educational institutions such as the University of Iceland and University of Akureyri (through the development organization Thekkingarvordur), financial institutions such as the Landsbankinn and KEA Ltd., and state owned energy companies, Landsvirkjun (The National Power Company), Nordurorka and RARIK.
The purpose of Orkuvordur Ltd. is to increase the competitiveness of Icelandic industry i.e. by strengthening and increasing education, research and modernization at the university level that will be useful to industry. For that purpose, Orkuvordur Ltd. operates a university (RES) and other activities that can serve this role. The role of Orkuvordur Ltd. is not to provide its shareholders with a financial profit. Orkuvordur Ltd. plans to engage in a variety of services in the field of education and research including cooperation with companies, research institutes and other educational institutes in Iceland and abroad.
