The Icelandic minister of finance, Mr. Steingrimur J. Sigfusson, visited RES students in April.



RES Students, Minister of Finance, Rector of the University of Akureyri and RES staff
The minister took a break from his election campaign to visit RES on 22 April, where he gave a speech on the necessity of progress and development in renewable energy research, especially
regarding environmental challenges and climate change.
He furthermore spoke about the current economic crisis and how it had affected Iceland in the recent months, and stressed that the social foundations and educational system would be key factors
in turning things around. RES would be an important factor in this turnaround, providing an important educational offer, attracting international expertise and contributing with research towards a
sustainable and environmentally sound future, affecting not only Iceland, but the whole world.
