Two RES graduates, Ms. Katarzyna Sobotka (Class of 2009) and Mr. Rafal Kozinski (Class of 2010), were honored as winners at the International Partnership for Hydrogen & Fuel Cells in the
Economy's (IPHE's) Global Student Competition at the 18th World Hydrogen Energy Conference (WHEC) in Essen, Germany, May 16-21, 2010.
Young people from around the world were competing in the IPHE Global Student Competition. The contest, initiated by Germany, was designed to be a recognizable educational event that increases young
people's awareness and knowledge of hydrogen and fuel cells, and also draws public attention and visibility to IPHE. As an IPHE Global Student Competition the project supports the strategic priority
of raising profile with policy makers and the public by education efforts. The Fuel Cell Systems & Hydrogen (FC&H) specialization at RES is endorsed by IPHE. The Specialization Coordinators
of FC&H at RES are Dr. Thorsteinn I. Sigfusson, Professor at University of Iceland and Director General at Innovation Center Iceland, and Dr. David Dvorak, Professor at the University of Maine,
U.S.A.
Ms. Sobotka's thesis at RES had the title „Wind Power-Fuel Cell Hybrid Systems: Optimization of Electricity Production“ and the research was done in Connecticut, U.S.A., under the
guidance of Dr. Trent Molter of the Global Fuel Cell Center of the University of Connecticut.
Mr. Kozinski's thesis at RES had the title „Fuel Cell Battery Hybrid System: Test of Ejectors for Anode Recirculation Loop” and the research was done in Dearborn, Michigan, U.S.A., under
the guidance of Dr. Chris Gearhart at the Ford Motor Company.
Both Ms. Sobotka and Mr. Kozinski presented their thesis results at the Student Day at WHEC and the rewards were presented to them at the Conference Plenary Session on May 17.
