RES Rector, Dr. Bjorn Gunnarsson, and the Rector of the Technical University of Kosice (TUKE), Slovakia, Dr. Anton Cizmar, signed a new partnership agreement between the two institutions on
2nd of November 2009.

Dr. Bjorn Gunnarsson visited the Technical University of Kosice, Slovakia, November 2-3, 2009. During the first day of the visit Dr. Gunnarsson met with TUKE’s Rector Dr. Anton Cizmar and four Vice-Rectors, Dr. Juraj Sinay (Public Relations and Marketing), Dr. Stanislav Kmet (Science and Research), Dr. Pavel Raschman (Education), and Dr. Jozef Zajac. Also attending the meeting were Prof. Dusan Holoubek and Prof. Juraj Janocko, both which are Visiting Professors at RES. A new extended partnership agreement between the two institutions was signed at the occasion, but RES and TUKE have already had a close collaboration for few years. The new agreement further promotes cooperation on academic programs and joint research programs. The new agreement is for a period of five years, but will renew automatically for another five years unless terminated.

During the first year of the M.Sc. Degree Program at RES, 2008-9, three candidates from TUKE attended RES: Ms. Lucia Hlavacova, and Ms. Katarina Kamenska, both from the Dept. of Geosciences, Faculty of Mining, Ecology, Process Control & Geo-technology; and Ms. Martina Kopunicova, from the Dept. of Furnace & Thermal Techniques, Faculty of Metallurgy. Currently, during this academic year 2009-10, two candidates come from TUKE: Ms. Miroslava Popovicova, Dept. of Furnace & Thermal Techniques, and Mr. Branislav Fricovsky, Dept. of Geosciences.
During the second day of the visit, 3rd of November, Dr. Gunnarsson, give presentations both at the Dept. of Geosciences and Dept. of Furnace & Thermal Techniques, on renewable energy utilization in Iceland and also on the RES’s M.Sc. Degree Program.
