Classes continue in spite of Volcanic Eruption

The last few weeks the volcanic eruption at Fimmvorduhals and Eyjafjallajokull has not disturbed the life in Iceland in general. The exception is that those people that live close to the eruption have had a lot of ash in the air and on the ground and they have had to evacuate their homes temporarily and keep their live stock indoors. RES is located "up north" in Iceland and has continued it´s lessons as scheduled. Last week Dr. Dvorak taught the RES606 Fuel Cells & Technologies module, and this week students participate in the Biofuels & Bioenergy module.

In a few weeks students will go on a RES Study tour in Iceland and visit a number of interesting sites harnessing renewable energy. The tour includes visits to high- and low-temperature geothermal fields, geothermal and hydropower plants, geothermal district-heating operations, research laboratories, various facilities utilizing hydroelectric, geothermal, biomass and hydrogen energy, as well visits to Iceland’s leading energy companies and institutions.

To see pictures from the volcano and it´s surroundings you can for example look at the website http://www.boston.com/, or to be more exact this link: http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2010/04/more_from_eyjafjallajokull.html
