Academic Coordinators - Dr. Hrefna Kristmannsdottir

Dr. Hrefna Kristmannsdottir is a Professor of geothermics at the University of Akureyri and Co-Coordinator of the Geothermal Energy specialization at RES.

Dr. Kristmannsdottir received her Cand.real. degree (1970) in geochemistry from the University of Oslo, Norway. She is a specialist in aquatic chemistry, water-rock interactions and chemical alteration, mineral precipitation in geothermal fluids, and in corrosion processes.

Dr. Kristmannsdottir, which previous work includes the Director of the Geochemistry Division (1979 - 2002) at the National Energy Authority (Orkustofnun) in Reykjavik, has many years of research experience in the utilization of geothermal resources, and in environmental impact assessments of geothermal energy use.

She is a Member of the Icelandic Academy of Science & Letters, serves on the editorial board of Geothermics, and on the Governmental Board of Science & Technology in Iceland. Dr. Kristmannsdottir is also a member of several technical committees appointed by the Ministers of Health and Industries as well as Nordic Council of Ministers.
