Visit from University of Ljubljana
General - Tuesday 08.September 2009
Professor Dr. Saso Medved from University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, is visiting RES for seven weeks.
Professor Dr. Saso Medved from the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering has been a Visiting Professor at RES from the 24th of July to the 10th of September 2009.
During his seven weeks-long visit at RES, Professor Medved among other activities was working on a manuscript for a new book on building physics, but the need for such a text book in currently high for the building physics curriculum in Slovenia. The book will be published at the end of this year by the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Ljubljana. Though the book is originally written in Slovenian, plans are to have it translated into English as well. The book will be a useful reference text for the Solar Energy specialization at RES, to be offered in the near future.

About a decade ago, a group of European professors of building physics proposed a new curriculum for architects and building planers. The aim of the proposal was to educate a new generation of architects for major upcoming challenges, namely to understand and deal with energy efficiency in buildings, and how to ensure required living comfort, both indoors as outdoors. The new building physics curriculum covers the following topics:
1. Heat transfer in buildings and energy efficiency of buildings.
2. Mass transfer in building construction.
3. Acoustic planning and noise protection.
4. Natural and artificial lighting comfort.
5. Fire development and fire protection in buildings.
6. Urban environments and climate change mitigation in cities.
This is the second visit by Professor Medved to RES. Last year around the same time he was at RES for six weeks.
